When I was just 8 years old, I faced an enormous loss, but Mom had assured me that God would provide for me. What happened next proved my mother right.
Losing someone you love is always devastating. For me, the death of my mother when I was still a child was a heart-rending challenge. My father provided no comfort to me or my five siblings because he didn’t — or couldn’t — express any emotions. I never saw him cry, nor did he ever say that he loved me.
Thankfully, before my mother went into the hospital, she said something fateful to me. “I know I may not be there,” she said, “but God will provide mothers for you.” I never imagined how true that would be.
After she was gone, many mother figures came into my life. First and foremost was my grandmother. She came to take care of us at our Florida home from her own home in Jamaica, where my parents were born, and that was the biggest blessing. I’m also deeply grateful for the other “mothers” who reached out to help me. Throughout my younger life, many special women, including the mothers of close friends, treated me like a son. They gave me the love and support I needed to thrive.
Meanwhile, I was discovering that I had a talent for basketball. I played constantly at a park across the street from my home until my shoes had a hole in them. My father couldn’t pay for new shoes, so I mowed lawns for my neighbors to earn a new pair.
Once I bought my new shoes, I knew that if I had any aspirations to go to college, it would be through sports, since I excelled at both basketball and football. My goal was to earn a scholarship, and I did. That kind of drive and determination has made a difference throughout my life. Eventually, I focused solely on basketball, where I earned recognition as the leading rebounder in my junior college conference. By that time, I was being recruited by bigger schools, and I chose to play at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
I love kids and became the go-to guy for attending children’s parties, becoming a fan favorite during my years in college basketball. I’ve also mentored more than a hundred kids to provide them with a positive role model, and many stay in touch, which means a great deal to me.
After college, I briefly played for an NBA Pro League, then became the No. 1 pick to play pro basketball in Korea. Not long after, The Harlem Globetrotters recruited me, and I spent several years playing for them and touring the world. While it was a great time in my life, I was now ready to pursue a career. I had earned a degree in criminal justice at the UNLV, but I began to realize it wasn’t for me. Friends told me I would be a natural as a real estate agent because I loved interacting with people, so I decided to earn a real estate license. In 2003, I proudly became a REALTOR®.
I’m fortunate to have a wonderful wife, who I met years ago while visiting my brother, who had moved to Brazil. In my heart, I just knew she was the one. However, I didn’t speak Portuguese, and she didn’t know English. In my typically determined way, I studied four hours a day and could read the language after six months. She moved to the United States, and we now live in Henderson, Nevada with our two terrific sons.
Today, we love doing things as a family when I’m not working as a REALTOR®, where I put my passion for helping people into play.
I treat my real estate career the same way I treated my basketball career: I’m always growing and learning. That’s a big benefit to my clients, whom I truly care about. I put my tenacity and sense of purpose to work for you each step of the way, providing experienced advice and guidance.
I hold myself to a higher standard and will never cut corners. Ethics are important to me, as I know they are to you. I always provide my honest opinion, even if that means you won’t buy or sell your home at a particular time.
For me, it’s not about the sale. It’s about the relationship. Many of my clients become my friends, and I’m there for them. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is handing you the keys and seeing your joy when you close on your home. After your home closes, I’ll be your resource for life. If you need any kind of home service provider or a friend, I’m here for you.
Sincerely,
Warren Rosegreen
